Sliding... Sledding... Oh Hell! It's A Coming!

So the weatherman says that Indy and the other 2/3 of the United States should be bracing for a really nasty ice storm tonight.  They are telling us that we will receive enough ice (over an inch) to knock out power for a while to a lot of places.  Well... if that just isn't GREAT.

Chances are that just MAYBE Sweets will be iced in with me tomorrow and we will be living like pioneers in our beautiful house with no power for computers, televisions, radio, etc.  We have 2 fireplaces and a heater so I'm really not worried about freezing to death.  And I can always find things to do like work on a quilt or crochet another blanket or hat.  It's easy for me.  But I can't help but wonder what Sweets will do with no power in the house?  The fireplaces will only need so much tending and there is only so much wood to split.  But I can't help but wonder if we will finally get the hallway painted by candle light?  Now there's an idea.

I hadn't been to the store since before Christmas so that was the first thing that I did today to get it out of the way.  I had myself all psyched up to deal with the crazy.  I imagined it would be like shopping on Christmas Eve or the day before Thanksgiving.  But I was highly disappointed when neither the crowd or the crazy was there.  Maybe it is because I was up a the butt crack of dawn to go.  According to the retired older man in line in front of me, if you get there before 9am, you are fine.  But after 9am it is just plumb craziness.  His words verbatim, not mine.

I bought a case of Budweiser, Mt. Dews, Milk and Cheese Its among other little things like candles and soap.

So if we do by chance freeze to death, at least we will be drunk and clean in the process and they will be able to find us by candle light.  That is if Sophie hasn't gotten hungry enough and started chewing on our frozen carcasses out of desperation because she can't get out of the house.  I've heard of that sort of thing happening and it really kinda creeps me out.

In celebration of the possible weather from hell, I decided to make Julia Child's beef stew in red wine today for us to eat tomorrow.  Made it in the dutch oven so if we lose our power, it can be heated up in the fireplace.  With a side of fresh bread that is still sitting on the stove in the kitchen taking its final rise, we should be good to go tomorrow eats wise anyway.

I'll have my iPhone fully charged for internet access if need be.  That's right.  My "addiction" goes just that deep.  But once that battery bites it, it is over.  *sigh*  This could get ugly.

So I am going to try and get as much work done this evening as I can.  Worse case is I get everything finished then I can just sit in a bay window all day tomorrow and watch the ice fall.  Of course that would probably only be 1/2 as exciting as watching paint dry.  In that hallway of course.  :)

Happy Monday!

Break out the ice skates kids!  It will soon be time to go skating.

  8. Hi Chris,

Yeah, I know the feeling! We were ready with split wood for both the fireplaces here thank goodness. It's crazy to go "back to the pioneer days" in 2011!
