Across Indiana, on WFYI Television...

I don't know if any of you have ever seen this television show.  It's obviously local to Indiana and features a few different places of interest in our state in each episode.  The show airs on WFYI Indianapolis and I've occasionally caught it on the weekends but it's been quite a while since I've seen it.

One of the things that I really did like about the show were the restaurant spots.  They would feature some of the most adorable, quiet, out of the way places.  Places that you wouldn't know were there unless you were local to the area.  Not the greasy spoons or diners either.  Nice little mom and pop places tucked away on a winding road or a very small town.

So you can imagine how excited I was when I came across their cookbook while I was out shopping a few years ago.  I didn't even know they had a cookbook.

Of course I bought it to thoroughly check it out and add it to my cook book collection.  I have a nice collection of eclectic and unusual cookbooks right next to my Julia Childs and Better Homes and Gardens cook books.   My favorites are of course the ones like this one that you don't find too often.  It has some really great recipes from people all of the state.  Plus, there are a few restaurant recipes in there too.

Like the Rathskeller Restaurant's Brat & Sauerkraut Balls, St. Elmo's Wedge Salad Dressing and The Sherman House Restaurant and Inn's Spicy Sausage Sauerbraten Sandwiches (it's in Batesville, IN if you are curious).

The book also has little snippets of different things from around the state.  Different places to see and artisans.  It reminds me of the show in book form with the recipes as a bonus.  It's really a neat cookbook.

Here is a clip from the television show Across Indiana on WFYI Channel 20 in Indianapolis:

Absolutely too cute!

And last but not least... Bonge's Tavern from 1999.  Across Indiana's reports on Indiana restaurants are priceless.

You can get a copy of this hard to find cookbook on Amazon.  I'd look at the used ones first if you are interested in this awesome cookbook.  It's becoming a rare book and isn't exactly easy to find anymore and that's reflected in the price when you buy this book new.  I think it's out of print, but I don't know for sure.

I've made a few of the recipes in it and only have one word to say... yum.  :)

Enjoy!  And... your welcome.  :)

Happy Sunday!
